This school, built in 1988
thanks to a missionary Priest, today welcomes approximately sixty
Indios children. They are taught notions of agriculture and livestock
care, and the goal of the basic instruction is the preservation of
the indigenous language and culture. Recently new classrooms, dormitories,
and a refectory have been built, thanks to the savings of Sibylle
and Renato. There is still much to accomplish.
The Tashi Boarding School, recently completed
in Kathmandu in the Boudha neighborhood, is in a position to guarantee
a primary and secondary education to approximately 180 Tibetan and
Nepali children as well as room and board for one hundred of the total
number of children. A program of “distance learning” has
been activated to contribute to the costs of managing this school.
The project, financed by Hotelplan Italia,
has funded the development of a new school complex which will substitute
the existing one that was almost completely destroyed by a fire. The
Butterfly foundation took care of the design and the turnkey construction
of this school for 320 pupils. The school was opened November 13th
2004.
In the frame of the new school construction
program in third world Countries, thanks to the financial support
given by the agents and head office of Aurora Assicurazioni S.p.a.,
the Butterfly foundation has recently completed the turnkey construction
of a secondary school in Kaungh-to village, in Southern Shan State
which can accommodate 210 pupils
In May 2006, after an agreement between
VIS – International Volunteers for Development
- the Saint Anne Congregation and Butterfly
Onlus, the plans to build a new Elementary school in Boditti began.
Boditti is 380 km southwest of Addis Abeba, in Ethiopia, and has approximately
15.000 inhabitants.
On Oct. 1st 2007 the first block of six classrooms was opened and
accommodates approx. 300 pupils.
Boditti " Centre for the promotion
of maternal and child health care" , built and funded by the
Zorzetto family in memory of their son Mauro , was opened on Oct.
1st 2007 in Boditti, a town that is situated 380 km southwest of Addis
Abeba and will operate as a first aid and prevention centre
in favour of approx. 1.000 children of the primary school currently
under construction, as well as of their families.
On February 28th 2009 it took
place the official opening of the second lot of six classrooms of
the primary school in Boditti, Ethiopia that Butterfly Foundation
is building thanks to the support of individuals and companies very
sensitive to the great value of education in this Country as in other
third world areas.
The project, supported primarily by Aurora
Assicurazioni S.p.a., has been implemented by the Butterfly Foundation,
thanks to the technical support & local assistance of the COOPI
non-profit organization which aided the completion of five potable
water wells for 2.000 beneficiaries among the rural populations of
OROMO and SEKOTA regions, in areas where drought and famine are putting
the lives of millions of people at risk.
During the first quarter of 2006 the Butterfly
foundation, thanks to the renewed economic support secured by Aurora
Assicurazioni S.p.a. insurance company, and the technical cooperation
established with the non-governmental organization VIS,
has already completed three new potable water wells in Ethiopia
in the villages of Obbe, Bicot and Boditti. Two additional water wells
located in Shiraro and Arbaba were opened to the local populations
last December 2006 thanks to the financial support granted by the
“Volontari l’Accoglienza” association,
based in Rocca Canavese (Turin) and the Highway Incentive
s.r.l. company, based in Milan.
Development of a water supply in the Gambela
region with the construction of 10 drinking water wells, in close
collaboration with VIS and AATO LAGUNA
DI VENEZIA.
The project was completed last March 2007 with the completion of the
ten wells for the population of the surrounding villages, totalling
over 13.000 units.

The Butterfly Onlus Foundation,
in collaboration with Funima International Associazione onlus and
the Fundaciòn Los Niños del Mañana has recently
funded the development of a 53 metre deep water well in the El Moreno
area (Andes). The project is meant for the population of the village
that counts 300 inhabitants, as well as 110 children using the local
food canteen
On February 2009 a hand -
pump water well has been officially opened in front of several hundred
people at Wora Atle tabia, Irob woreda, four hours drive far from
Adigrat city, Eastern Tigray region, thanks to the financial support
secured by the non profit association " IL GIRASOLE" . This
association had already promoted a fund raising that enabled the realization
of another water well in the same area in March 2008.
Hadish Hivot water well,
whose implementation has been financially supported by Becatti family
in memory of their son ANDREA, who prematurely left the earth plane,
has been opened on February 26th 2009 in Hadish Hivot tabia, Tigray
region, Ethiopia.
The well, operated by a hand pump and duly fenced, has been drilled
at a depth of 40 metres and secures clean waters to the village consisting
of 125 families, 625 people approx.
The well operated by
a hand pump has been officially opened on February 25th 2009 thanks
to the financial support secured by Giampiero & Sabrina Gelmi
and their friends.
Kushed gidiba is located in the woreda of Ganta
Afeshum, 20 kilometres west of Adigrat city, in Tigray region, Ethiopia
and counts approximately 600 inhabitants.
The realization of the
hand pump water well in sasie, Eastern Tigray, Ethiopia, has been
financially supported by the company EUROPIPING srl. Industrial Technologies.
The project has been implemented in the "tabia" of Sasie
, approx .10 kilometres east of down Edagahamus and 25 kilometres
far from Adigrat, capital of Tigray region and the official opening
took place in front of the population of the villages that will benefit
of such a well on February 25th 2009.
A new water well has been
opened last February 24th 2009 in the village of Simret,( woreda of
Ganta Afewshum) in Tigray region, Ethiopia, three kilometres far from
Bizet downtown and 35 kilometres west of Adigrat, capital city of
the region, thanks to the generosity of the LIONS OF PIACENZA - 108
district - IV precint.
Program of "long distance
adoptions" dedicated to Tibetan children, refugees in Kathmandu
in Nepal and in the Bhandara district, in India and managed personally
by Lama Tashi, director of the Tibet House in Votigno (Reggio Emilia)
and promoter of the TASHI SCHOOL that the Butterfly Foundation implemented
and officially opened on March 26th 2005 in Boudha/Kathmandu,
Nepal.
A program of distance adoptions implemented
in cooperation with the missionary sisters of St. Anne’s Daughters,
dedicated to children aged 2-12 living in extremely poor conditions
in Boditti, 380 kms. South of Addis Abeba, where Butterfdly Foundation
in presently engaged in the implementation of several humanitarian
projects.
This program of distance adoptions
in Guder, a small village located at two hours drive from Addis Abeba
has been activated in March 2008. The community consists of approx.
70 orphans girls living in very poor conditions with no water availability
. Sister Martha Habdollo of the St. Anne's daughers congregation is
taking care of them together with other two sisters.
Butterfly foundation, following to the renovation of the Podere
Serra, owned by O.A.S.I. asp, is presently managing in Forlì,
Emilia Romagna Region, a project specifically dedicated to children
and teenagers of various cultural and social standards, living in
a state of great discomfort and crisis. The project is intended
to welcome up to 11 children temporarily entrusted to social care
services.
During 2006-2007, the Butterfly Onlus Foundation, thanks to the
support from Western Union FSI, has contributed
to the development of support programs and help for foreign communities
living in Genoa, with particular attention to the Ecuadorian community.
The main purpose of this project ,that
will be
fully activated as soon as required funding will be
made available, is the one to brighten the lives of
seriously and terminally ill children by granting them a wish
The centre of Payaphyu, in the north of
Burma, currently houses approximately 170 patients with mental illnesses
and physical deformities as well as numerous orphaned children, in
a context of extreme poverty. We are engaged in the construction of
new centres for assistance and rehabilitation. .
The project intends to finance agricultural
and cattle breeding in the village of Adekosha (Ethiopia).
This microloan project is addressed to 80 women living the area in
very poor conditions.
