HAND PUMP OPERATED WELL IN  ENDAMOSA,  TIGRAY REGION (ETHIOPIA)

On June 26th 2009 in front of the local population the Butterfly Foundation opened a hand pump operated water well in ENDAMOSA, a village located in  Komasubha tabia , woreda of  Sasietsaedaemba,  15 km est from down town of  Edagahamus  and 30 km far from  Adigrat, Tigray Region, Etiopia.

The well, drilled at a depth of 40 meters and duly fenced,  has been  funded by Gianni and Mimma Olivari  in the memory of their son GIULIANO, a young boy who  tragically passed away a few years ago.
The beneficiaries are 120 families, equal to approx 600 people living in the village of Endamosa

Tigray region in located in the North of the Country and covers a surface of 61.500 sq. kilometres. i.e. the 5,6% of the total population of Ethiopia. People living in Tigray are five million and the 85% of them is represented by rural population with a growth index of 3% .

In Ethiopia only the 22% of the population has access to clean water sources, but in these rural areas such a percentage lowers down to 11% ; four over one hundred people have access to sufficient sanitary conditions.

The technical realization of this project has been entrusted to ADCS ( Adigrad Catholic Secretariat), an organization working since many years in Tigray region and equipped with machineries and technical personnel in condition to provide technical execution and maintenance of the works.

The project coordination has been secured by VIS (Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo) regional office in Ethiopia which is Butterfly foundation partner in Ethiopia.
