On June 28th 2009, Butterfly foundation, thanks to the funding made available by the ASSOCIAZIONE VOLONTARI L’ACCOGLIENZA, based in Rocca Canavese and headed by Don Sergio Messina, officially opened a new well of potable water in MANEWOT (Adiliado area) in the woreda Sasietsaedaemba, approx. 45 kilometres far from the city of Adigrat, Tigray region, Ethiopia.
The well, has been drilled at a depth of 40 metres and guarantees a regular supply of potable water to approx. 1.500 people, including 350 students of a nearby school.

The area of Adiliado, where the well has been drilled, is an extremely dry zone .
Tigray region in located in the North of the Country and covers a surface of 61.500 sq. kilometers. i.e. the 5,6% of the total population of Ethiopia. People living in Tigray are five million and the 85% of them is represented by rural population with a growth index of 3% .
In Ethiopia only the 22% of the population has access to clean water sources, but in these rural areas such a percentage lowers down to 11% ; four over one hundred people have access to sufficient sanitary conditions.
