Water well in Endalgheda , Eastern Tigray,Ethiopia |
On March 15th 2008 , thanks
to the financial support granted by Santagada family, a water well
with hand pump has been opened in memory of Alessandro, at Endalgheda,
eastern Tigray, Ethiopia, a village counting 280 families ( approx.
1.400 inhabitants) and located in the woreda of Irob, three hours
drive from Adigrat. The area is very dry and insecure as far as food
availability is concerned.
The project target has been the drilling of a hand pump well at the
depth of 35 meters with adequate fencing.
The population of the area lives upon agriculture in extreme poor
conditions caused by the very dry climate and the polluted water availability
that causes severe diseases specially to children.

Tigray region in located
in the North of the Country and covers a surface of 61.500 sq. kilometers.
i.e. the 5,6% of the total population of Ethiopia. People living in
Tigray are five million and the 85% of them is represented by rural
population with a growth index of 3% .
In Ethiopia only the 22% of the population has access to clean water
sources , but in these rural areas such a percentage lowers down to
11% ; four over one hundred people have access to sufficient sanitary
conditions. |

By this donation, the parents of Alessandro will transfer their
son love into any drop poured by this well securing clean water.
An act of great generosity and help for these people living in conditions
of extreme difficulties.
