Mauro Hospital - Boditti
CENTRE FOR THE PROMOTION OF MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE
Boditti, Etiopia

Following the agreement of collaboration between VIS – International Volunteers for Development, the Nun Congregation of “The Daughters of Saint Anne” and the Butterfly Onlus Foundation, and thanks to the financial support given by the Zorzetto family from Piombino Dese (PD), Italy, in loving memory of Mauro,  the works relevant to the construction of  a Health Care centre started in March 2006.

The Centre is adjacent to the elementary school that is currently in construction in Boditti, a town that is situated 380 km southwest of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, and has approximately 15.000 habitants.

The project has been completed on October 1st 2007 and will operate as centre for child health care and maternal health care securing  as well   first aid  and prevention acivities.

The clinic will monitor the sanitary situation of children who are pupils of the elementary school and their respective families as well as offering a service which is open to the entire local community.

The clinic’s task will be to give first aid and emergency attention, to monitor the state of malnutrition of the children, and to cure the more common diseases of the area such as malaria, typhus, skin diseases and intestinal infections.

In the more severe cases the clinic will work as an intermediary between the patient and the closest hospitals.

It is estimated that the clinic will receive approximately 40 patients a day, with a total of c.a. 12.000 patients a year.

Every two months educational meetings will be held with themes related to health (hygiene, AIDS, the prevention of intestinal and skin diseases) through the consultancy of experts who will deal with the managing of the clinic.
These meetings will be open to the whole community with a view to distribute information more widely.

It is estimated that the number of people who will benefit from each meeting will be approximately 100 per year and therefore at least 600 people will gain this knowledge.

The construction work of the Mauro Hospital is estimated to be completed for September 2007.
