Tigray is one of the regions of Ethiopia with a very low level of economic and social infrastructures. The region is facing a variety of complex problems ranging from climatic and topographic to the alarming population growth. Chronic food insecurity, high unemployment rate, malnutrition, limited access to basic social and economic services (education, health, water, road etc) are the common features of the region.
The water well of May-Charow has been drilled in the “woreda” of Ganta-Afeshum having a total population of 111,043 people and 19 Tabias, the specific area of the project area is estimated at about 8,870 of which 3,997 are male and 4,873 are female. 2,043 households reside in the area, of which 42.2% is female-headed households.
On January 31st 2013 the well, drilled at a depth of 60 meters, at Buket tabia, has been opened by the funders: Associazione Volontari l’Accoglienza, based in Caselle (TO).
Beneficiaries estimated to be in the range of 350 people.”
