In 2014, the Daya Primary and Secondary School, located in Tigray, Ethiopia, had unsafe walls and leaking roofs.
Students were following the lessons standing on stones. The Butterfly Foundation built the first four classrooms, a rainwater collection tank, and six latrines for 200 students.
A potable water well was opened in 2020 for the use of children and teachers, a new block of four additional classrooms for the secondary grade students, and a classroom to be used as a
kindergarten. In February 2024, the destination of two additional classrooms, originally intended as a library and a teachers’ room, changed due to a significant increase in student numbers.
During the opening ceremony, we received a request to construct a new block of three classrooms to shelter 170 kindergarten children, as the number of students had dramatically
increased.
The total investment for the completion of this project, consisting of three additional completely furnished classrooms, is € 81.000,00 / € 27.000,00 per classroom.
At the present date, we received donations for the manufacture of 30 school benches for the students of the KG, named “the House of the Butterflies”
