In the year 2014, the Daya Primary and Secondary School, located in the region of Tigray, Ethiopia, was made of unsafe walls and a leaking roofing.
Students were following the lessons standing on stones. The Butterfly Foundation built the first four classrooms, a water tank for the collection of rainwater as well as 6 latrines for the use of 200 students.
A potable water well was opened in 2020 for the use of children and teachers as well as a new block of four additional classrooms for the secondary grade students and a classroom to be used as kindergarten.
Last February 2024, the destination of two additional classrooms, originally to be used as libray and teachers’ room, changed following to the high increase of students.
During the opening ceremony, we received the request for the construction of a new block of three classrooms to shelter 170 kindergarten children, as the number of students dramatically increased.
The original classroom dedicated to KG will be the library and teacher’s room.
The total investment for the completion of this project consisting of three additional completely furnished classrooms is €.81.000,00 / €.27.000,00 per classroom.
