On 12 January 2011 near the village of ZIBANDIV (Goala District), in Ganta Afeshum Administrative Province, Tigray Region, Ethiopia a portable water well was installed which is operated with a hand pump and drilled to a depth of 60 meters and financed by the Volontari l’Accoglienza (Hospitality Volunteers’ Association).
Including the surrounding village communities, about a hundred families will benefit (every family on average has 5 members), for a total of about 500 people.
The beneficiary families belong to predominantly rural communities and in at least a third of them, the role of the breadwinner is played by a woman.
It is estimated that at least 300 of the beneficiaries are women, children, or elders
