The Butterfly Foundation is present in Madagascar since 2013 with the implementation of several schools, water wells, and a Health care centre.
Following the recent challenging operations in the Tigray Region, Ethiopia, we decided to intensify our presence in this area of the world. This project aims to support for three years the operation of the canteen “ZARASOA” of the Majaka School, built-in 2005 at Miandrarivo, Madagascar, and the required refurbishing of the same.
The beneficiaries will be 120 children aged 4-16 who attend the school and live in nearby villages. The project target is to better the local education standard, increasing the children’s school attendance in Miandrarivo Municipality and, at the same time, fighting a very high level of malnutrition.
The donation requested to Butterfly foundation by the school Management through the “Les Petites Soeurs Congregation” will be essential to guarantee excellent and well-balanced food to the school children. Furthermore, a vegetable garden will be implemented at the school; the children will plant the vegetables supplied to the canteen.
Parents are all aware of the damage caused by their very low level of education. They are convinced that to contrast the growth of groups of bandits in the countryside, called “DAHALO” (in Malagasy “zebu thieves”), children must be educated and go to school.
The canteen operation will allow the parents to work in the fields until the afternoon without cooking for their children. The project will improve the children’s social life, giving them better chances for their future, thanks to better education.
The total required budget for three years’ operation of the canteen is equal to € 15.150, while the amount of € 5.050 will cover this year’s operation.
