In the Tigray Region, following two long war periods that caused over seven hundred thousand casualties and almost three million displaced people, the situation that we could asses during our last trip in February 2024 is highly dire and challenging. Several schools are without benches, children following their classes sitting on stones, and women are still obliged to walk several miles to fetch polluted water.
Thanks to the generous donation of our long-time friend Daniele Caporaletti, the rehabilitation of the Gerew water well, which had been dry for a long time, has been completed. Potable and fresh water is finally available to the population.
The official opening ceremony took place on November 22nd 2024.
