St.Marie Gemma school at Maritampona, Madagascar, shelters 406 students aged four to seventeen. One hundred ninety of them came from the surrounding villages. Several students living without parents or relatives presently face severe difficulties attending school. In contrast, several parents must arrange their children’s meals at four in the morning to avoid their late arrival at school.
The project intends to support the operating costs of the school canteen. Unfortunately, the same was closed due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the relevant increase in food costs.
At the present date, the parents of several students cannot afford the minimum contribution request for school attendance, and there are no funds available to secure a daily meal for the poorer and underweight two hundred fifty children.
We intend to:
- Offer a complete and equilibrated meal (vitamins, carbohydrates and proteins) from Monday to Friday
- Contribute to convincing the parents to send their children to school till the age of seventeen to increase the school attendance rate
- Reduce the children’s need to procure food during school time.
The encouraging results achieved through the operation of the canteen at Amparihy e Miandrarivo showed an increase in the school attendance of the children as well as better school performance following correct feeding.
To support the canteen operation costs of a canteen at Maritampona school, to be activated as soon as funds are available, the requested contribution is €. 6.000/year for three years of operation.
Any contribution will be significant for all these children
