As part of the “Donate the Water” scheme which has been created through the partnership between the Butterfly Foundation, the Charity Association Vo l’A, and the Catholic Secretariat of Adigrat (ADCS), projects have been set up with the aim of assisting the rural population in Eastern Tigray in having better access to water. Specifically, these projects involve reactivating water wells that have not been working for quite some time.
This area is currently suffering from the worst drought period in the past sixty years.
This project has been carried out in Eastern Tigray in the ARAERO locality which is situated in the Hayelom district in the Golomekada woreda and officially opened on April 25th 2017 in the presence of its donors.
The objective of the project was to reactivate the water well that was dry for a few years, by removing the old tubing, fitting new ones to a suitable depth, equipping the well with a new mechanical pump and protective fencing.
The total number of direct beneficiaries is around 350 people, in addition to the large number of inhabitants in nearby villages who will be able to draw benefit from this well.
The funds for this project have been raised by Stefania Rustico and Luigi Castagno who decided to receive money to finance this well instead of gifts for thei wedding.
the Butterfly Foundation thanks Stefania and Luigi for their great generosity.
