Funds have been collected thanks to the successful ‘Make a loving gesture: Donate water “ scheme in the last weeks of March 2012, near the supermarkets A&O, Famila and Svelto, belonging to the Cesena ARCA Group, that has allowed the establishment of a second well in the region of Tigray, specifically in Woreda in Irob, one of the poorest and remotest parts of the area. The eastern zone of Tigray is subject to recurring droughts and Irob province, the target area of the project, is, together with Woreda of Saesie Tsaedaemba and Ganta Afeshum, among those most affected by food insecurity.
The MEKETA well, situated in the village, has been drilled to a depth of 70 metres and operated by a hand pump. It provides over 300 people in the village with access to clean water. The opening of the well took place on the 21st June 2012 with a great celebration as a sign of gratitude for this gesture of love. Furthermore, this year Raul Casadei was an extraordinary witness to the initiative.
Particular thanks to all those who have contributed to the success of this project.
