The St. Joseph Millennium School was born as a kindergarten in the year 2001 with an enrolment of 40 pupils. Later on, the school progressed by establishing a primary school in 2007. The number of students has increased to 405 units at the present date. The school is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Dar es Salam and run by the Usambra Sisters of Tanga congregation at St. Teresa Mafia Mission Diocese of Dar es Salam.
Most of the children living In the island’s interior places need a bus to offer them the transportation service from their homes to school.
The age of the pupils ranges from 3 to 14 years, and their number is expected to reach 500 units next year.

The Sisters managing the school and the children’s parents already secured the amount of €. 7.000,00; therefore, the total amount still required is €. 45.000,00.
In future, the school intends to repair the school roof and some classroom ceilings due to rainwater leakage, and the requested funding is €. 35.000,00, while the amount of €. 32.000,00 is asked for to increasing the capacity of the school canteen.
