On 27th November 2010, thanks to the financial backing of the La Casa dell’Albero Foundation in Fossoli di Carpi, and thanks to the generosity of all the people who supported this initiative, a well was unveiled in the village of Atkaro (district of Alitena), in the administrative province of Erob, Tigray Region, Ethiopia. It is approximately 70 metres deep and able to provide drinking water to around 500 people.
The well was drilled to a depth of around 70 metres and is operated by a hand pump, not simply because of the lack of electricity, but to make its maintenance easier.
It has an excellent water flow and it can ensure clean water provisions for over five hundred people, in particular women and children who live in the village of Diblah and in the neighbouring villages in the district of Alitena. Heartfelt thanks to the Casa dell’Albero Foundation in Fossoli di Carpi, who met the costs of building this well.
