As part of the “Donate the Water” scheme which has been created through the partnership between the Butterfly Foundation and the Catholic Secretariat of Adigrat (ADCS), projects have been set up with the aim of assisting the rural population in Eastern Tigray in having better access to water. Specifically, these projects involve reactivating water wells that have not been working for quite some time.
This area is currently suffering from the worst drought period in the past sixty years.
This project has been carried out in Eastern Tigray in the DEBRE SAESIE locality which is situated in the Saesie district. The objective of the project has been to reactivate a dry well by removing the old tubing, fitting new tubing to a suitable depth, equipping the well with a new mechanical pump and protective fencing.
The total number of direct beneficiaries is approx. 250 people, in addition to the large number of inhabitants in nearby villages who will be able to draw benefit from this well.
The funds for this project have been raised through charity arranged by Partenope cares, promoted by Mr Alessandro Lautiero.
The well has been officially opened on April 30th 2017.
