Clean water is one of humanity’s most precious resources.
The insurance company Aurora Assicurazioni S.p.a., aware of the continuing crisis endangering the survival of many people in this country, decided in January 2003 to finance the construction of one initial drinking water well, which was carried out by the Butterfly Foundation in Haro, in the Oromo region of Ethiopia, with the technical collaboration of non-governmental organisation COOPI.
Thanks to the subsequent funds raised by the brokers of this insurance company during the annual convention held in April 2003, it was possible to build another two wells for drinking water in Adadi and Mugayo, situated in the vicinity of the city of Negele, and to launch the first agricultural development programme.
In January 2005, thanks to the generosity of this important insurance group, a new water resources project were launched in the north of the country, in the Sekota region, allowing for two new wells to be built in Babena and Derenzeba.
These five water wells can guarantee clean and potable water to approx. 2.000 people in Ethiopia.
