The grant received by the Emilia Romagna Region cooperation program will give the Butterfly Foundation, jointly with the ” Comitato per la lotta alla fame nel mondo“, “Amici di Adwa association” and their local partner “Kidane Mehret“, the opportunity to contribute to animal farming within the Adwa mission in the Tigray Region.
Initially activated by the Salesian Sisters, the project benefited from the cooperation of an Italian farmer and a Kenyan agronomist and became essential during the long emergency due to the war in the region.
The availability and access to food and potable water have been minimal since the war’s outcome last November 2020.
The lack of electricity, the fuel needed for humanitarian aid transportation, and the closure of the region’s borders make the present situation extremely difficult for the people.
The Region Emilia Romagna’s grant allows purchasing of five cows, 20 chickens, two pigs and 20 sheep. Animal feed, agricultural equipment, and veterinary care will also be provided in the project’s frame.
Butterfly Foundation, during the present emergency, intends to support this project directly thanks to the contribution of its sustainers
A donation of €. 100,00 will enable the purchase of a sheep.
The purchased livestock and cattle will be butchered to feed the more vulnerable people such as old aged people, women and children presently starving to death due to the famine caused by two year running war.
