The project scope was to improve the living conditions of rural families of the area, as far as the clean water availability was concerned. The four Municipalities where the project has been implemented are Fihaonana, Bematazana, Ankerana and Miandrarivo.
The Italian NGO REGGIO TERZO MONDO acted as our technical partner while the required funds have been made available by the charity Association Volontari l’Accoglienza, based in Caselle (TO).
Last January 2012 thirty shallow water wells, excavated at a depth ranging between 25 and 30 meters, have been completed and delivered to approx 2.000 beneficiaries living in rural areas. Each well will be protected by a steel top with a lock-in order to avoid the children access to the wells and possible pollution of the water. The wells will be opened to the beneficiaries at fixed time set by the established water committee.
In addition to the said thirty wells, two additional wells operated by a solar pump have been completed and delivered to the people. Mr Giampiero Gelmi made available the required funding.
