As part of the “Donate Water” scheme, which has been made possible through the partnership established between Butterfly Charity Foundation, ECC-SDCOAd-B,(Catholic Association of Adigrat) and Vo l’A ( Associazione l’Accoglienza), several projects water-related, are presently under progress in Tigray region, North of the country at the border with Eritrea. The above, following the recent severe drought, the worst since over the last years.
A new water well has been drilled at the village of HATSEB district of Genta Afeshum Tigray Region Ethiopia and the opening celebrations took place on November 10th 2019.
This well, funded by the Vo l’A association, has been dedicated to the memory of Maria & Nicolò, Don Sergio’s parents and the beneficiaries are the range of some 300 individuals not counting the people living in the nearby villages who will access the clean water as well.
A hand-operated pump and pipes have been installed in order to reach 58 metres depth, far below the aquifer level. Fencing has been executed in accordance with the usual procedure in order to safeguard the privacy of the women having access to water.
A Water & Sanitation committee has been established in accordance with the common practice for the maintenance and operation of the well.
