The well with a hand pump in Kushet Gidiba, Eastern Tigray, Ethiopia, was constructed thanks to the financial support of Sabrina and Giampiero Gelmi, who asked their friends not to give them wedding gifts, but instead to make donations to the building of a water well in Africa.
The village of Kushet Gidiba is located in the tabia of Kitagidiba, in the woreda of Ganta Afeshum, 20 km from Adigrat, Tigray Region, Ethiopia, and has around 600 inhabitants.
The well, drilled to a depth of 50 metres, functions with a hand pump and was opportunely fenced off and equipped with an animal trough. Intestinal infections are particularly widespread in the area, which especially affects children and are caused by domestic use of water from unsafe sources (in particular stagnant water). The well has been naugurated on 24th February 2009.”
