Mayguhalit water well

As part of the “Donate the Water” scheme, which has been made possible through the partnership established between Butterfly Foundation and ECC-SDOAd-B (Catholic Association of Adigrat), several water-related projects are presently under progress in the Tigray region, North of the country at the border with Eritrea.

On July 29 2023, a water well, dry for several years, already rehabilitated at the village of MAYGUHALIT, Gulomekada district, Tigray region, Ethiopia last 2019, was officially opened.

The rehabilitation works, executed before the COVID-19 pandemic and the two-year lasting war, included the installation of new extended pipes to reach the groundwater depth, a brand new, hand-operated pump, fencing, and training of the Water and Sanitation Committee, following a running practice.

The well benefits around 300 people, not counting those who come to fetch water from the nearby villages.

We want to express our gratitude, in the name of all the beneficiaries of this clean water, to the school fellows of the Scacchi Scientific High School in Bari as well as to the students of GONZAGA CAMPUS of Palermo who granted their small but significant contribution.
