In the frame of the existing cooperation established several years ago between the Adigrat Catholic secretariat and Butterfly foundation, intended to secure potable water to the remote villages in rural areas of the Tigray region, the rehabilitation of one completely dry water well took place in MUGUMA, district of Hiwot, Tsaeda Emba province, in Tigray Region.
The total number of beneficiaries is in the range of 320 individuals; many people living in nearby areas will benefit from this water point as well.
The works included new pipes to reach the depth of at least 6o meters, a new pump and fencing. A Water & Sanitation committee has been established in accordance with the usual practice, in order to guarantee due maintenance and operation of the well.
Funds for the implementation of this new water well have already made available by the donor, Mr Padraigh Feeley.
The well has been officially opened on July 1st 2016, and the ceremony was attended by several hundred of people willing to thank for the great opportunity to finally have access to clean water.
