5 water wells ( 2006 )

The sale of over three thousand volumes of the book “Sete d’Etiopia”  via the network of agents of Aurora Assicurazione S.p.a., has provided the necessary funds for the Butterfly Foundation to build three new water wells.

These wells guarantee a safe water supply to around 18,000 beneficiaries throughout the villages of Obbe (Guraghe region), Bicot (Tigray Region) and Boditti (Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People’s Region). The wells were drilled to depths of 60, 80 and 174 metres, respectively; the Bicot well, on the outskirts of the city of Adigrat, and the Boditti well is powered by electrical energy and have water distribution points in the village.

On 13th December 2006, the Butterfly Foundation was able to present a new well for drinking water to the population of the village of Geza Mekar, situated on the outskirts of Shiraro, thanks to the funds raised by the non-profit organisation “Volontari l’Accoglienza” in Rocca Canavese (Province of Turin). The well was dug to a depth of around 40 metres and will meet the water needs of approximately 1,500 people, as well as those of the people in the neighbouring villages.

In Arbaba, a village with approximately 3,000 people, situated on the outskirts of Gondar (Amhara region) and completely deprived of drinking water, the opening of a new well was celebrated on 15th December 2006. The well is 204 metres deep and has a large water tank, capable of guaranteeing drinking water to the local population via eight water distribution points, thanks to a connection with the city’s electrical system. The well was built thanks to the financial backing of the company Highway Incentive Srl. in Milan.
