The water well opened at Heray Gona is the fourth one dedicated to the memory of Marco by his family willing to convert the great pain for the loss of a son into love for many people in need of support.
The well has been drilled at a depth of 62 meters and is operated by a hand pump to facilitate maintenance operations. A WATSAN (water and sanitation) committee has been established according to the usual procedures.
The well has been officially opened on February 13th 2014 by Don Sergio, as representative of the Vo l’A association and attended by many people of the village. Dallol area is one of the 29 woredas of Afar Region and is considered to be one of the hottest spots in the world; 97% of the resident population live in rural areas; the average number of family members exceeds six individuals.
