A deep well near the structure of the Congregation of Saint Anna’s Daughters (Congregazione delle Figlie di S. Anna) (elementary school and clinic) was inaugurated with a great party on the day of December 17, 2011, in the Administrative Province of Sasie Tsaeda Emba, Tigray Regional State, Ethiopia, thanks to the financial contributions that were assured by ARCA Group.
The objective of the action is both to favour the access of potable water to the population of Edaga Hamus Woreda, and to improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of the involved communities. The well was drilled at a depth of 220 meters and is operated with an electric powered pump.
Water distribution points within the formal structure are being completed. The Sisters of the Congregation of Saint Anna’s Daughters have been present in Edaga Hamus since 1995, where they manage an elementary school, a child asylum, and a medical assistance clinic.
The school opened in 2005 and has about 800 students while the clinic receives approx. 50 patients a day. The proposed water system, therefore, allows the provisioning of portable water to a total of 1,000 people a month.
