Meketa school I

The Meketa elementary school is located 70 kilometers from Adigrat in the Irob district in the Eastern Zone of Tigray. The area is mountainous and notoriously eroded with very scanty rainfall for about 5-10 days in the whole rainy season.

The lack of classrooms didn’t allow the students to attend the only existing primary school in the area, which had no benches, library, blackboards, teacher’s room, toilets, water access, and shortage of educational material.

The school administration started the construction of some classrooms by mobilizing the entire community, however, it was beyond their technical and financial capacity to construct additional blocks and even to complete the already started classrooms. Students of the school were obliged to two shifts due to the lack of classrooms.
